AMVETS COMMANDER’S REPORT

EVENTS OF 2023 FOR AMVETS POST 2000

Jan 12, 2024,

2023 has come and gone and, no doubt, was a rough year especially after Hurricane Ian caused us all so much grief in September 2022. Many are just now getting their lives back together. However, I would like to thank everyone for standing behind us to help us grow and prosper. Your dedication and efforts are greatly appreciated. I would first like to start by mentioning the ongoing success stories of the fun games we hold at the Post by our loyal members. Special thanks to Greg and Marilyn Gage for initiating Bingo on Tuesday evenings and Show Me The Money on Wednesday evenings,. Also, our fabulous Bar Bingo callers and players lead by Carmen and Josie from our LAUX. I would also like to thank Greg Gage, Commander of the SONs, for Successfully overhauling the SOA and turning it into the great aid that it is to this organization, and last but not least all the snowbirds and all the rest of the officers and fun folks that help make us a better Post.

Here is one of the big accomplishments for 2023 that deserves honorable mention. Everyone knows how important the lot next door has been for us, we have been renting that lot for many years and it has became of utmost importance to us for parking. Recently we discovered the owner of the lot had put it up for sale and had a buyer coming in to purchase the property. God must have been on our side to have made another attempt at purchasing at exactly the right moment. We’ve been trying to purchase the lot for many years. A big factor was we did not have the money to purchase it and would have to purchase it using a bank loan. Were we shocked when we found out the interest rate would be 10.4% and we would have to include the building in the figures. Our great members, Harold and Cindy Muxlow agreed to loan us the money, ($180,000,00) at 8% with our promise to pay them back when the bank rates came down. We now own the lot, thanks to their generous offer. Another big, big plus for the year was getting a new roof done by Chapelle Roofing at a very reasonable price, Greg Hartman got this handled for us. The roof was paid for with money donated by the King-Logie foundation thanks to Alan Fish and Christine Reynolds. We can plan to do big events in the future now because of all that help.

I would also like to thank Gil & Rhonda, Jeff & GiGi and Carl Stadler (Carl-o-kee) our in-house Karaoke entertainers for their great performances every Monday and Thursday evenings. I would also like to thank our live entertainers on Friday and Saturday nights. Also, Hats off to Krisi Whetstone for doing such a great job on the advertisements including menu changes and great flyers. Thirdly, I thank all of my Amvets Officers such as: Cindy Muxlow-Finance Officer, Steve Allie-First Vice, Ronnie Carroll-Provost Marshall, Dennis Bogert-Head Trustee,. Extending our deepest sympathies to Fred Stottlemyer our past web-site builder who just passed. Hats off to Jim Speirs, Finance Officer for the SONs who has picked up the reins and is working to keep and create an even better website.

A very important item, even though finished several years ago that we must still make honorable mention about was the Remodeling in 2020, so many great volunteers helped with this endeavor while we were shut down for Covid. I’m sure all have seen the great improvements The bar remodeling was donated by Greg and Marilyn Gage who remodeled it with new cabinets secured at no charge by member, Ken Cadigan.

Additionally, I would like to thank all the ladies in the LAUX and the SONs members and all Officers and its community of volunteers involved in stepping up making this Post the best that it has ever been, let’s keep working together and growing. Lastly, I want to make mention to a very rewarding aspect of our Post and that is the donations made to our Veterans by our participating local businesses and agencies like Bread Donations delivered twice a week by Carl Hanscom, whom we lovingly named him “Carl the Bread Man”.

During Christmas time our Post turned into Santa’s HQTRS this included a free meal at Amvets 2000 Post. Our military families were asked to fill a wish list of presents for needy children and families and received all they requested. Additionally, Santa Claus was played by member Dennis Sauer. Thank You Dennis.

We are Looking forward to another great year, 2024, with continued participation by our great members. Our Donations coming into the post have been growing in the past months all benefiting the Veterans. Moreover, I want to thank all of the military men and woman for keeping us all safe and serving in this great country. Your time and devotion is greatly appreciated.

God Bless and Thank you again,

Ronald Cleary
